Able and Talented Cluster Provision
We are proud to be part of a cluster with other local schools, which provide opportunities for children with particular strengths in different subject areas, to work alongside each other in workshops throughout the year.

We hope to extend our cluster provision by taking the 4 schools on trips to: Haworth Art Gallery/ Blackburn Museum and more exciting cultural capital experiences.

The Hollins science department gave our children an amazing insight to science lessons in High School.
The children were asked, “How does light travel?”
They looked at an image with shadows on and had to use this to explain their answers. Our children surprised the science teacher with their knowledge, understanding and explanation about light travelling in a straight line. They were then challenged on what happens to light when it hits an object. They were given a mirror, light, protractor and ruler and angles at which they had to get the light to hit the object. The children had to draw lines to the given angles and then measure the angles at which the light bounced off the object. The children managed to get the correct results within a degree or two. Next, the children discussed the colour of light and most said white. The teacher then gave them a prism to see what happened to the light when it reflected of the prism. Light split into the colours of the rainbow, which amazed the children. They changed the position of the prism to see if they could get a sharper rainbow.
All in all, a great morning!
Congratulations to 4 children from Year6/6b who won the Spelling Bee in January! They beat all the other cluster schools with a perfect 10/10 to win the Spelling Bee Trophy! Well done we are very proud of you.

Football Masterclass with Primary Education Ambassador David Horrocks a former head of science at Manchester United Football Club.
Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a great afternoon making Kites as part of STEM/DT afternoon at one of our clusters. They tested materials for strength, wind, water before making the Kites.
The children in Years 2 and 3 learnt lots about keeping safe online in the Online Safety Workshop held here at Huncoat.
